Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts Program provides the training needed for a variety of careers. Professionally trained individuals are needed to fill occupational positions in such areas as:

  • Executive Chef
  • Sous Chef
  • Pastry Chef
  • Baker
  • Cake Decorator
  • Restaurant Manager
  • Personal Chef
  • Prep Cook
  • Cook's Assistant
  • Food Server / Wait Person

Required Supplies

It is required that students in the Culinary Arts courses purchase the following supplies:

  • Uniform $50.00 (approximate)

    Full uniforms will need to be purchased online before the start of classes and are required for first lab.

  • Black Shoes: $30-$150 (approximate)

    Black shoes that are commercial kitchen quality, oil and slip resistant will also be required for laboratories. Students will be required to purchase these shoes prior to the first lab.  Absolutely no tennis shoes, slippers, or sandals will be allowed.

  • Knife/Tool set $150 -$250 (approximate)

    Knife/Tool kits will be purchases in class through our vendors.  The process for purchasing uniforms and knife sets will be sent through email a week prior to first day of class.

  • Textbook(s): $80 each (approximate)

    A text book will be required for Essential Skills and Principles of Baking and Pastry.  They are listed on the syllabus and available at the Grossmont College Bookstore.
