Grossmont College offers adapted exercise courses designed for students with verified disabilities.
ES 001: Adapted Physical Exercise
(1 unit)
ES 001 is designed to develop various components of physical fitness for students with verified disabilities. Students will receive a physical assessment, appropriate exercise equipment, and a personalized exercise program. Students will also learn the fundamental principles of physical fitness and their impact on life-long health and wellness.
ES 002: Advanced Adapted Physical Exercise
(1 unit)
ES 002 is an advanced physical exercise course designed for students with verified disabilities. Emphasis is placed on muscular fitness through resistance exercises. Students will receive a physical assessment, appropriate exercise equipment, and a personalized exercise program. Students will also learn the fundamental principles of physical fitness and their impact on life-long health and wellness.
The A.R.C. offers a variety of classes designed to provide supplemental instruction to academic credit courses. These classes provide compensatory strategies to enhance opportunities for academic success.
PDSS 080: Learning Disabilities Assessment
(.5 unit)
PDSS 080 is a course in which a learning disability specialist will individually assess students and interpret their test results to determine eligibility for A.R.C. services. The assessment process includes a thorough discussion of learning strengths and challenges as well as appropriate academic accommodations and services to support academic success.
PDSS 092: Math Strategies for Students with Disabilities
(1 unit)
PDSS 092 offers instruction in strategies to improve success in math courses for students with disabilities. Included in the course are test taking strategies, techniques to deal with math anxiety, textbook reading skills, ways to improve note taking and memory, and effective homework and study practices. Students will identify various aspects of their learning styles and use this information to develop study strategies that are appropriate for a math course.
PDSS 095: Study Strategies for Students with Disabilities
(1 unit)
PDSS 095 is a course in which students with disabilities will receive instruction and practical experience in time management, study reading, note-taking, studying for tests and test-taking. The course emphasizes the development of individual compensatory strategies to enhance opportunities for academic success.
PDSS 097: Basic Writing for Students with Disabilities
(2 units)
PDSS 097 provides instruction in basic written language skills and knowledge to improve grammar, mechanics, usage, and composing skills for students with disabilities. Students will write narrative and expository paragraphs, focusing on the application of grammatical and mechanical rules and concepts in the context of writing.
PDSS 098: Writing Fundamentals for Students with Disabilities
(2 units)
PDSS 098 provides instruction in fundamental written language skills and knowledge to improve grammar, mechanics, usage, and composing skills for students with disabilities. Students will write narrative and expository paragraphs as well as expository essays, focusing on the application of grammatical and mechanical rules and concepts in the context of writing.
