French

French, the language of Diplomacy, International Trade and Romance, is spoken by over 450 million people in 47 countries around the world including: Canada, our neighbor to the north; the tropical paradises of Tahiti, Martinique, and Guadeloupe, as well as many Asian and African nations such as Vietnam, Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Morocco. In Europe, French is spoken not only in France, but also in Belgium, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. French is also one of the official languages of the European Economic Community (EEC).

France is world-renowned for her rich historic past and her contributions to Art and Literature through the works of Descartes, Molière, Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Sartre, Rodin, Renoir and Monet, to name but a few of the many great French authors, artists and philosophers. Everyone has heard of the delicacy of French haute cuisine, the elegance of French fashions and the allure of French perfumes from the boutiques of Yves Saint-Laurent, Cartier, Hermes, Chanel, Christian Dior and Givenchy.

Who should study French? Students who are preparing for a career in International Business, Travel, Diplomacy, Medicine, Scientific Research, and Development or the Fine Arts will benefit greatly from their ability to communicate with the French-speaking world.
