Safe Zone: Ally Program

Safe Zone Ally Training Program is to provide a welcoming environment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and/or ally (LGBTQQIAA) persons by establishing an identifiable network of supportive persons who can provide support, information and a safe place for LGBTQQIAA persons within the Grossmont community.  Those who have committed to being Safe Zone Allies indicate that bigotry and discrimination, specifically regarding LGBTQQIAA persons, are not tolerated.

Ally training objectives include:

  • Train a network of empathetic allies on campus

  • Make this network visible and accessible by posting stickers on doors and pins on backpacks and other appropriate locations

  • End discrimination and bias against LGBTQQIAA campus community members

  • Assist LGBTQQIAA students in their social, personal and academic development

Trained allies are asked to:

  • Display their ally stickers and pins in prominent places

  • Provide information, referrals and support to LGBTQQIAA members of the campus community

  • Refrain from promoting any religious or theoretical perspectives that consider LGBTQQIAA life and people anything other than a natural part of the continuum of human sexuality

Look for the Grossmont College Safe Zones logo throughout campus. It identifies a person who has completed the on-campus LGBTQQIAA Safe Zone Ally Training all of whom have pledged their commitment to supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transponder, questioning, queer, intersex, asexual and ally people.
