Step 1
Draw a line through P and cuts the line L.

The angle between the new line and L is not important, but your new line should extend more above P.

Use your compass to draw a circular arc centered at the intersection of the two lines.
The larger the radius the better, and the arc has to cut the two lines.

Use exactly the same radius to draw a half circle centered at P. Make sure that the lower part of your arc cuts the blue line.

Step 4
Use your compass to measure the width of the lower arc.
Then transfer this width to the second arc and make a mark at that point.

Step 5
Connect a line between P and the mark you just made. This will then be the parallel line we want!
