Step 1 Draw a line through P and cuts the line L. The angle between the new line and L is not important, but your new line should extend more above P.
Step 2 Use your compass to draw a circular arc centered at the intersection of the two lines. The larger the radius the better, and the arc has to cut the two lines.
Step 3 Use exactly the same radius to draw a half circle centered at P. Make sure that the lower part of your arc cuts the blue line.
Step 4 Use your compass to measure the width of the lower arc. Then transfer this width to the second arc and make a mark at that point.
Step 5 Connect a line between P and the mark you just made. This will then be the parallel line we want!
