Cross-Cultural Studies

Welcome to the Cross-Cultural Studies Program!

In general terms, Cross-Cultural Studies is the study of human behavior and culture. We are an interdisciplinary program that explores the intersections of race, class, ethnicity, indigeneity, gender, sexuality, and dis/ability in order to better understand and transform the world we live in.

What is meant by "interdisciplinary?"

To be an interdisciplinary program means to combine two or more academic disciplines, connecting their respective theories, methods, and pedagogies. A wide selection of our courses are cross-listed, meaning they are also housed in other departments including Sociology, History and Spanish.

Since Cross-Cultural Studies centers human behavior, relationships, and cultural production, a degree in this field can enrich any academic, personal, and professional pursuit.

The Cross-Cultural Studies major prepares students for transfer to four-year institutions and for careers in diverse work environments.

Our program partially fulfills lower division requirements for continued study in area studies such as African American Studies, Chican@/Latin@ Studies, Asian American Studies, American Indian Studies or Women's Studies. For specific requirements, transfer students should consult the catalog of their transfer institution.
