Every semester Grossmont College offers Professional Development opportunities in both Online Learning and Canvas. Please contact Janet Gelb our Distance Education Coordinator or visit the Professional Development department for more information.
Our next class begins June 29, 2020. The six week course introduces you to teaching an online class using the Canvas learning management system and now includes a module on Designing for Accessibility. You will learn how the system works through a series of curated readings and recall what you have learned through formative quizzes. You will also practice what you have learned through a series of hands-on exercises focused on the subject you teach. The final project will require you to have at least two modules, plus an orientation module built for a course you plan on teaching in the future. There will be an orientation session held via Zoom on June 29th and weekly office hours to go over materials and discuss questions. Please fill out the registration form right away to reserve your spot.
Our Introduction to Teaching with Canvas course sets the foundation for using Canvas, this Introduction to Course Design Course helps you take the next steps toward great course design. The power of an online course comes from careful planning and intentional design. Blending the concepts of backward design with universal design and hands-on practice, you'll gain mastery in the skills needed to purposefully design an engaging, high-quality online course that captures, and keeps, your student's attention. You'll leave with a robust plan and the solid foundation of your newly envisioned course.

We have several amazing DEFT Workshops planned for this semester. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend as many as possible. Each topic has been chosen to support you as you build your Canvas courses and enrich the experience for your students. One of the great "side" benefits of these workshops, is the opportunity to make connections with other faculty and share how you are using Canvas in your courses.
