Volunteer experience for six months or more with a non-profit organization that includes training, increasing responsibility and leadership looks great on your resume. Get the hands-on experience working with live animals that will make you a desirable candidate for jobs, internship and research opportunities at these places:
Help kids learn marine science or work with animals and work your way up to Aquarist Assistant and care for tanks.
Protect nesting endangered birds, works side-by-side with scientists helping to collect data on estuary health or teach visitors about ecology and supervise volunteers doing restoration projects.
Help teach low-income kids about science and conservation at the hands-on discovery lab. Opportunities range from one-day events to paid year-long internships as science educators. Spanish-speaking volunteers are preferred.
Help care for orphaned and injured birds and mammals. They recruit volunteer in the fall and expect you to commit to a year, due to the extensive training unless you already have experience.
