A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject. - Winston Churchill
A democracy which makes or even effectively prepares for modern, scientific war must necessarily cease to be democratic. No country can be really well prepared for modern war unless it is governed by a tyrant, at the head of a highly trained and perfectly obedient bureaucracy. - Aldous Huxley
Here at Grossmont the Political Economy department believes students should see politics from an up close and personal perspective. Every semester the department of Political Economy sponsors Political Economy Week to facilitate a close examination of the political and economic issues impacting our local, national, and international communities. The faculty of the department share their own political opinions and involvement with the students as well as invite speakers of diverse perspectives.
Past Political Economy Weeks have included presentations by members of Congress, media personalities, community activists, local political leaders, and distinguished scholars. Our event is often covered by the local media and has even garnered international attention along with several awards for civic education.
