A very common misperception about Financial Aid is that you cannot use it while receiving GI Bill Benefits and that is INCORRECT.
Students may be eligible to earn Financial Aid depending on their income, household size, GPA (minimum 2.0), completion rate (must complete over 60% of courses attempted) and previous education completed. Remember that your GI Bill income is non taxable income. However many students are not eligible for Financial Aid their first year after separating from the military because FAFSA uses the income taxes from the previous year or two years.
After your first year of separation you are more likely to be eligible and can speak to the financial aid office about an adjustment of income. Brenda Gates is the Financial Aid Liaison for Veteran Students.
When in doubt apply for Financial Aid, the application is free and can allow you more financial freedom to focus on your academics instead of trying to work to make extra income when you should be spending your time studying.
