Raised in a working class family in the San Joaquin Valley, Haile Wright was part of the first generation to graduate college in her family. Inspired by her mother’s resiliency and sacrifices, Haile saw higher education as a means to secure financial stability and a profession she was passionate about. Haile began helping students achieve academic success when she was still a student herself, and a Resident Adviser at UC Santa Cruz. That experience of assessing students’ needs, connecting to them resources, and providing peer counseling, set Haile on the path to become the counselor she is today! After finishing her Bachelors in Psychology at UC Santa Cruz, Haile chose to complete a Masters degree in Social Work at San Diego State University, as a way to combine her passion for social justice and counseling.
With over 5 years of experience in providing social services, Haile has worked in a variety of settings and served diverse populations including individuals and families affected by homelessness, Transitional Age Youth and adults affected by severe mental illness, community college and continuing education students, sexual assault and domestic violence survivors, as well current and formerly incarcerated individuals. Her mission as a counselor in Grossmont College’s CalWORKS departments is to meet students where they are at, listen to their stories, and assist them with achieving their personal and academic goals.
In her personal life, Haile enjoys staying active with Zumba, expressing herself through art, practicing her second language, Spanish, and connecting with friends over food.
