Corrections Academy

To get the background packet, download the corrections academy packet.  You must first apply to the college to become a student and then fill out the paperwork, as your Grossmont College Student ID # is required. All instructions are listed in the documents. You must submit the background packet immediately to the AOJ office after you have completed the DOJ Live Scan, before the DOJ results can be processed by the college. If we do not have your background packet on file, we do not know who you are or how to contact you.

Having the DOJ results on file with the college doesn't guarantee acceptance into the academy unless the background packet (personal history statement) is on file with the college.

The last day to download the DOJ packet is TBD and the last day to submit the packet to the AOJ Office is TBD, before 4:00PM, for the next academy.  No Exceptions.  

You may not register for this course until the DOJ results are received by the college, even if your registration date has arrived. Once you complete the background / DOJ packet, please submit your fingerprints as soon as you can. If you have any questions, please email the AOJ department directly. Grossmont College will not be liable for any costs incurred by you if you are unable to attend due to late submissions or if you are denied by DOJ.

Pay required college fees either online or in person at the cashiers office.  Approximate cost $504**. Please note, the cashiers office is located in building 10, room 110, and is open Mon. - Fri. 8:00-5:00pm. Parking permit can only be purchased online.

*To ensure registration in the class, college application & acdemy packet should be submitted as soon as possible.

UNIFORMS:

Black pants (Dickies style) for classroom attire. There is a required uniform for the corrections academy, details related to cost and style will be discussed upon successful enrollment of the course. Generally, uniform costs are approximately $111.00, including tax.  Your academy packet will have all information and uniform order form and costs.

You must purchase Corrections Academy uniform through program vendor only, at time of application submission.

You will need to purchase black colored law enforcement style boots and have available running shoes. No open toe shoes or sandals are permitted at anytime.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Should be in good physical condition to pass physical training and Assaultive Behavior components of course which may include, but are not limited to: running, sit-ups, push-ups, stair climb, scaling six-foot wall/fence.

ATTENDANCE:

Mandatory attendance at all times (State Board of Corrections mandate). 
Tardiness will not be tolerated for any reason. NO EXCEPTIONS!

OTHER POLICIES:

No caps of any kind allowed during Academy training, including classroom.
No facial jewelry allowed.
No jewelry of any kind can be worn during the course.
Nails can not be more than ¼” past tip of finger, (safety issue).
Ladies - hair must be worn up at all times if long.
Men - must be clean shaven and hair must be neat & trimmed. Long hair is not permitted.

Note:  if you have completed the Grossmont College Corrections Academy, you may be eligible to receive credit for AOJ 125.

If you have completed the Ca. Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation Academy (CDC&R), and the course is transcripted with an accredited college, you may be eligible to receive credit for AOJ 125, and 140.  Please note that recent CDC&R academies may not be eligible.

You might also be able to take AOJ 214 and 215 if currently working in corrections. Contact the AOJ office for more details.

How to Register (after DOJ approval for firearms & academy courses)

Before you register for class, you must have an application on file, and it takes 24 hours to process your application. If you are a returning student, and have been absent for more than one year, you must re-apply to the college.  You can only register at your appointment time or after.  To check registration date, login to WebAdvisor, and from student menu, left side of screen, click "registration date and time".  
To apply, www.grossmont.edu, click "student services" then yellow "apply & enroll online".

Login at www.grossmont.edu and click on "WebAdvisor"

• Login - name (first.last) pin - birthdate (6 digits) If there are more than one student with the same name, you will be given a series of numbers to add to your last name. You need to know this before you can log in to WebAdvisor.
• You will be asked to customize your pin / password at this time.
  
  

  From WebAdvisor:

  Verify registration date and time by clicking on “Registration date /time” right side of screen, near the top.

  Select “search, plan & register” – this will direct you to the new self-service system.

  Self-Service:

  Type in the course you want in the search box, top right corner.  For the corrections academy, type aoj107. 

  Select “view available sections for AOJ-107”

  Click “add section to schedule” large blue box on right side of screen.  You will be asked to select “add to schedule again”.  You can search / add for all of your classes in one step while in this section.

  To register, select “student planning & registration” at top of page & then “plan and schedule”.

  From here, you will need to click the arrow for “spring 2020”.  You will see your course(s) listed on the left.  If all is correct, you may register for each of your courses individually from here, or you can register for all of your courses from the top right “register all scheduled sections now”.

  If you see a circle with a red line, this means you do not have one or more of the following:

  • It isn’t your time to register, refer back to step one.
  • You have not submitted your background application, or you have not been cleared by DOJ at this time. Please contact AOJ .

  To get back to WebAdvisor, use your arrow back key at the top of your browser. This will allow you to verify your registration date / time without logging out of the self-service system.

You may make a payment online via secure website or in person at the Cashiers office. They are open Monday - Thursday, 9:00am - 5:00pm, Friday, 9:00-1:00pm (except summer, closed Fridays). All fees must be paid at the time of registration to prevent being dropped and not receiving credit for the course.
