Three Griffins set to play at universities
(5/17) Grossmont College sophomores Kayla Henry (New Mexico State), and Brigayle Iglehart (CSU Dominguez Hills) received basketball scholarships Wednesday afternoon. Additionally guard Marla Mason(UCSD) will also play next season for the Division II Tritons, who do not offer scholarships. Henry was named first team All-PCC this season averaging 17 points and nine rebounds per game. The 5'11 post player out of Mt. Miguel High School will play for the Aggies, who advanced to the WAC Title game this year for the first time in school history. Iglehart was also a first-team All-PCC selection this year. The guard out of University City High School averaged 16.5 points, 4.7 assists and 8.2 rebounds this year for the Griffins. The Division II Toros finished second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association last season. The CCAA also includes UCSD, meaning Iglehart will compete against former teammate Mason next year. Mason will stay in San Diego at UCSD. The guard from Chula Vista High School averaged 5.9 points, 2.7 assists, 2.6 steals, and 3.7 rebounds. The Tritons advanced to the NCAA Tournament this year, falling in the first round. Grossmont's sophomore standouts Brigayle Iglehart and Kayla Henry were named All-PCC First Team members on Monday (2/20.) Iglehart averaged 16.5 points per game, with a team-leading 4.7 assists and 8.2 rebounds. Henry led the Griffins with 18.7 ppg, and 9.2 rebounds.
Marla Mason (top), Gabby Passentino, and Heather Thomas were named Honorable Mention All-PCC. A sophomore, Mason was a defensive whiz for Grossmont and a consistent contributor in points (5.9), assists (2.7), steals (2.6), and rebounds (3.7). Passentino, a freshman out of Santana was a starter all season long up front with Henry. She finished the year third on the team in scoring (6.7), and rebounds (5.1). Thomas, also out of Santana was a key performer who got hot towards the end of her sophomore season. She had a memorable night against Southwestern on January 18th, erupting for a career high 27 points, including six three-pointers.

Kayla Henry scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Griffins beat visiting Cuyamaca 73-57. Freshman Gabby Passentino scored 11 points to go along with her eight rebounds as the Griffins used their height advantage to whip the Coyotes on the boards.

The Griffins were in the game all the way, but ultimately fell to the PCC leaders 58-45. Grossmont was led by Brigayle Iglehart's 15 points, and 13 from Kayla Henry. IVC was led by Ivy Smith's 26 points.

The Griffins rode Kayla Henry's (right) hot streak, beating Southwestern college on the road Wednesday night, 67-61. Henry had 26 points, Brigayle Iglehart had 13, and Heather Thomas scored nine. The win puts Grossmont back into a three-way tie for second in the PCC. The Griffins return home on Saturday night to host Imperial Valley at 7pm.

In a PCC cross-town matchup, Grossmont defeated Cuyamaca 69-58. The win moves the Griffins two games over the .500 mark at 14-12, and improved their conference record to 3-2. The women have a bye this Wednesday, and will travel to Palomar on Saturday at 7pm for a doubleheader, with the men's game starting at 5pm. The Griffins lost to Palomar 68-61 back on January 14th.

On a night when Grossmont's leading scorers were held in check, Laura Felice came off the bench to score a team leading 12 points, giving the Griffins a 62-53 win. The win puts Grossmont in a position to shake up the PCC leader-board in the second round of conference play. Felice scored all of her points from beyond the arc, going 4-13 from downtown. Kayla Henry, had 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Brigayle Iglehart scored 10 points and pulled down 12 boards.

1/24- Grossmont's Heather Thomas, Kayla Henry, and Brigayle Iglehart were selected as PCC Honorable Mention Athletes of the week for the week ending January 22nd. Despite her quadruple double against Southwestern, Iglehart was not eligible for Athlete of the week because she, along with Henry, has already received the honor once this season. Iglehart, a 5-8 sophomore guard from University City High School, recorded the first quadruple double in Grossmont history in a 95-37 rout of Southwestern with 28 points, 13 rebounds, 11 steals and 10 assists. She also scored 12 points vs. Imperial Valley.
Henry, a 5-11 sophomore forward from Mount Miguel High School, scored 16 points against Southwestern. She came back with 32 points and 10 rebounds vs. IVC.
Thomas, a 5-1 sophomore guard from Santana High, had 27 points and was 6-for-11 on 3-pointers for the Griffins against Southwestern.
The Grossmont women came ever so close to upsetting Imperial Valley, losing 75-68. Kayla Henry (right) popped in a career high 32 points and 10 rebounds for the Griffins. That mark was equaled by IVC's Ivy Smith, PCC's leading scorer. Laura Felice had a season best 15 points for Grossmont. The Griffins will host Mesa on Wednesday at 7pm.

Grossmont's women recorded a lopsided victory against an overmatched Southwestern squad 95-37. Four Griffins scored in double figures, led by Brigayle Iglehart's 28 points. The sophomore recorded the second quadruple double in county history with 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and 11 steals. Not to be outdone, Heather Thomas broke out for 27 points, including shooting 6-11 from beyond the arch. Grossmont's other leading scorers were Kayla Henry with 16, and Laura Felice with 12.

The Griffins could not overcome a poor first half, falling to visiting Palomar 68-61 in Saturday's PCC opener. Grossmont put up a valiant second half rally, led by Brigayle Iglehart's 30 points (24 in the 2nd half.) The Comets held a 39-22 lead at the break, and were able to protect that lead over the game's final 20 minutes. Kayla Henry poured in 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but no other Griffins reached double figure scoring. Grossmont hosts Southwestern at 5pm on Wednesday in a doubleheader with the Grossmont men.

Grossmont College basketball player Kayla Henry has been selected as Women's Athlete of the Week by the Pacific Coast Conference for the week that ended Sunday (1/8).
Henry, a 5-foot, 11-inch sophomore forward from Mount Miguel High School, scored 43 points as the Griffins split a pair of non-conference games.
She tallied 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 64-49 victory over College of the Siskiyous, then scored 19 points in a 67-60 loss to Lassen.

The Griffins fell last Friday (1/7) to Lassen College 67-60. Grossmont was hoping for a better showing heading in to PCC play, but played sluggishly and allowed Cougars to overcome a 13 point deficit. Gabby Passentino was out of action after having her wisdom teeth removed. Kayla Henry led Grossmont with 19 points. Laura Felice took advantage of the added minutes by knocking down four three-pointers. The Griffins open the conference season at Palomar, Saturday the 14th.

The Grossmont women won convincingly 64-49 over College of the Siskiyous. The Griffins were without the services of guard Marla Mason who was out with the flu. Gabby Passentino also started the game on the bench due to complications with her wisdom teeth. Reserves Shakendria 'Texas' Mitchell, Teri Bailey, and Laura Felice stepped in and helped the Griffs win their third straight, and fifth of their last seven. Forward Kayla Henry led the way with 24 points. Passentino was more than effective, coming off the bench to score 16 points. Siskiyous, which is in the Mt. Shasta region of northern California was led by Emily Martin's 20 points. The Griffs will host another NorCal foe, Lassen College on Friday night at 7pm.

Mt. San Jacinto won the championship by defeating Citrus College 57-55. In the third place game, Mesa downed Bakersfield 62-57. Grossmont won the consolation final 60-53 over Compton College.
12/29- Grossmont advanced to the tournament Consolation final with a 67-37 blowout of Saddleback. The Griffs will face Compton College in the final.
The Grossmont women lost their opening round game on Tuesday (12/27) to Mt. San Jacinto 71-62.

In the first round of the Clear Channel Tournament at Antelope Valley College to Santa Barbara 64-62 in overtime. Kayla Henry (right) paced Grossmont with 21 points. It was Grossmont's second loss to Santa Barbara. The Griffins will face College of the Desert on Friday (12/16).

Dec. 11 -Brigayle Iglehart, a sophomore guard from University City High School, narrowly missed her second triple-double of the season, falling one steal short, in the Griffins' 67-46 victory over College of the Desert. She finished with 14 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, nine steals and five assists.
Iglehart came back later in the week to lead Grossmont to a 69-62 win over Chaffey, scoring 27 points and also contributing nine rebounds and seven steals.

Four Griffins scored in double figures as the Grossmont women defeated visiting Saddleback 75-48 Wednesday night. Brigayle Iglehart lead the Griffs with a triple double, 18 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Teammates Kayla Henry (16 pts) and Gabby Passentino (10 pts, 11 reb) controlled the paint for the Griffs, who out-rebounded the Gauchos 48-29. Laura Felice shot 4-7 on three's, good for 12 points.
The Grossmont women are looking to build off last years 20-win season and postseason berth. The Griffins will feature six freshman and six sophomores. Among the returners are all-conference selections Kayla Henry, Marla Mason, and Heather Thomas, more.
Hemet- Kayla Henry scored 26 points, but Grossmont lost game number two of the season 83-82 to Mt. San Jacinto. Brigayle Iglehart had 17 points, and Gabby Passentino scored 16. The game was marked by 54 combined fouls.
The Griffins host Moorpark on Friday at 6pm.
The Grossmont women's basketball team started its season on a winning note with a convincing 70-48, win over visiting L.A. City College. The Griffins (1-0) were paced by Brigayle Iglehart's19 points. The Sophomore also contributed 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the victory.
The Griffins started slowly against LA's zone defense, but found their stroke and led 38-26 at halftime. Sophomore Kayla Henry was a force inside for the Griffins totaling 10 points and 7 rebounds.
The other Griffins in double digit scoring were sophomore Heather Thomas, (10 pts, 2-4 3pt FG's), and freshman Gabby Passentino (13 pts, 10 reb.)
The Griffins limited LA to 30% field goal shooting, and out-rebounded the Cubs 38-48.
