Griffins send 4 players to universitiesEL CAJON - Head Coach Karen Caires announced today that four members of her 2013-14 squad signed on to play for four-year universities in the fall.Bethesda University in Anaheim CA will look like Grossmont to the north with three Griffins joining the program in the fall of 2014. Jonalynn Fuertes, Jessica Bautista and Lucille Gleason all signed to play for Flames coach Jason Pruitt, who came down Grossmont to join the signing. Kaila Britten will head to the sunshine state on a full ride scholarship to Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida to play for coach Bill Sullivan. "This is a great day for our program," said Caires. "It is so rewarding to see players like Jonalynn, Jessica, Lucy and Kaila come through our program, work hard as student athletes, and achieve their goals." |

Karen Caires' camp experience comes from Snow Valley Basketball School, Camp Director at both the University of Vermont and The University of Arizona with camps with over 300 campers! Caires has been a clinician at camps around the country. Camp will be fun and you will learn basketball. The Women's Basketball program at Grossmont has developed into a respected program across the state. The team has posted back-to-back Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships and advanced to the sweet 16 in 2010. Many players have transferred to play at Cal Poly Pomona, UCSD, University Hawaii, Hilo, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Humbolt and more! You will get better! Camp Staff will be former Division I, II and III players, current Grossmont College players. Caires Hoops began in 2010. The camp has grown in numbers and reputation each year! All campers had an amazing experience and comments from parents and campers alike were that they wished we would add another week! Now it is your turn!
IMPORTANT CAMP INFORMATION Ages: Co-Ed for ages 7-15 Location: Camp is held in the Grossmont College Gyms. Registration: Register as soon as possible. Walk-up Registration is from 7:30-8:30 am the first day of camp if space is available Each camper is required to pay a $25 non-refundable deposit to secure a spot. Any remaining balance is due on the first day of camp. *No multiple discounts. A late administrative fee of $25 will be applied if application is not received one week prior to camp. Extended Day activities are an additional $25 for the whole week. Awards: Camp awards and presentations will be made on the last day of camp from 2-3 pm. Family and friends of campers are welcome.

Mt San Jacinto rallies to their 20th win of the season EL CAJON - In a battle of two of the top four teams in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, Mt. San Jacinto came out on top 83-73 at Grossmont College on Wednesday. Freshman guard Tamara Herring had a game-high and season-high 30 points (23 in the second half) to help MSJC (20-6, 9-2 PCAC) to their 20th victory of the season. Grossmont (13-10, 7-4 PCAC) was led by Kayla Rivera's 16 points coming off the bench. Three of the Griffin starters reached double-figures in the loss. One of the starters that did not reach the double-figure plateau was Jonalynn Fuertes who scored eight points. This was the first time she had been held under 10 points since the Griffins faced Bakersfield back on December 28 during the Grossmont College Holiday Invitational. It was not looking good for the Eagles in the first six minutes as they missed their first ten shots before Deshea Wilkes hit a three pointer with 14:10 remaining. The Griffins were not exactly running away with the game at that point leading 8-5 after the basket. At the 10:08 mark of the first half, MSJC gained the lead for the first time with a pair of free throws by Kenyetta Fugate. The lead change was something of a common occurrence as there were 18 in the game. Neither team had a good grip on the ball during the contest. Mt. San Jacinto turned it over 17 times to Grossmont's 15. On the other side of the coin, both teams shot the ball well from deep, with neither school shooting below 40 percent. MSJC went off for 54.5 percent, while GC was hitting on 42.1 percent. The Eagles had the rebounding advantage, grabbing 20 more than the Griffins (43-23). On Friday, the Griffins will be in San Marcos for a 5:00 P.M. tip before returning to the friendly confines of Grossmont for their final two regular season contests. |

Griffins claim conference openerEL CAJON - The Grossmont College Women's basketball team defeated the Spartans of MiraCosta on Wednesday by a 69-44 score. Grossmont (7-6, 1-0) had four of their five starters in double figures, led by Jessica Bautista who had 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor. Jasmine Patrick gathered a double-double (11 points and 15 rebounds), her eighth of the season and fifth in a row. Others in double figure scoring included Lucille Gleason (14) and Jonalynn Fuertes (10). The Spartans (0-9, 0-1) were led by Alexis Rivas who poured in 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Savannah Summers was the only other Spartan to reach double figures (11). On Friday, the Griffins will travel to San Diego Mesa College (5-9, 0-1) for a 5:00 PM tip against the Olympians. Mesa lost at San Diego City on Wednesday by a 64-59 margin. |

| Griffins take down Seahawks Box Score EL CAJON (11/19/13) - Grossmont College Women's basketball team defeated the LA Harbor Seahawks on Tuesday at the Griffin Arena by a score of 75-48. Five Griffins (4-1) tallied double figures in scoring led by freshman guard Kayla Rivera with 17 points. Fellow freshman Jasmine Patrick recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds in 19 minutes. This is the third game of five played that Patrick has registered double figures in rebounds. The Griffins had a 2-0 lead prior to the tip, as LA Harbor (0-2) was assessed an administrative technical foul for having an ineligible roster number. Crystal Dilworth was wearing the number 8, which by CCCAA rules is not allowed. After the tip, Grossmont jumped out to a 10-7 lead with 15:09 remaining in the first half. Over a seven minute stretch the Griffins ran off a 14-1 run to take a 32-11 lead with two minutes left in the half. At intermission, the Griffins had a 39-15 advantage. Coming out of halftime, the Griffins struggled to keep the momentum as LA Harbor came out and made it look like they were going to try and get back into the contest. The Seahawks got to within 18, but that would be as close as they would get at the 15:27 mark. Another Grossmont run (16-4) in the middle portion of the half, along with another 14-8 run pretty much wrapped up the game for the Griffins. The road beckons the team on Friday, when Grossmont travels to Citrus College for a 5:00 tip-off against the Owls. Citrus is 0-2 after participating in the 15th Annual Rose City Classic at Pasadena City College this past weekend. |
