Mason, Tritons headed to NCAA D-II Final Four

(3/20) Grossmont alum Marla Mason (left, holding regional championship trophy) and her UCSD teammates have advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four. The No.12 Tritons on Wednesday defeated No.2 Glenville State to advance to the Final Four. They will face Southern Connecticut State Thursday (3/21) for a chance to play in the national championship game. Thursday's game will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 5pm.

All-PCC Teams Announced

(2/19) The Pacific Coast Conference announced the 2006-07 All-PCC teams today and two Griffins were first-team honorees. Sophomore forward Gaby Passentino and freshman forward Meghan Ehmke were selected to the first-team while freshman guards Kylie Pitts and LaTasha Dowell were named Honorable Mention.

(1/27) The Griffins held several single-digit leads in the second half, but couldn't hold on, falling to Cuyamaca 76-84 at home.

Gaby Passentino poured in a game high 27 points, and was 11-16 from the free-throw line. Alexis Bertelsen chipped in with 15 points.

Grossmont on wrong end of lopsided loss

(1/25) The Griffins were trounced by host Palomar Wednesday night 98-61. Only non-starter Ali Smelser managed to reach double digits in scoring for Grossmont with 11 points.

Griffins fall to Jags

(1/13) Grossmont College suffered its first setback in PCC play losing to Southwestern College 54-73 at home Saturday night.
The Jaguars sprinted to a 53-24 halftime advantage as the Griffins could only muster eight field goals in the first 20 minutes of play. Southwestern post player Nicole Anderson burned the Griffs for 20 first half points. While Anderson was held in check during the second half, mostly due to illness, it was teammate Danielle Garrett who had a strong half to hold off a Grossmont comeback attempt.
The Griffins cut the Southwestern lead to six with two and a half minutes remaining, but the Jags pulled away with the 19 point victory.
Center Megan Ehmke paced the Griffins with 13 points, but it wasn't enough to offset Anderson's game high 28 points.

Grossmont in first place after win at City

(1/11) Grossmont College sits atop the PCC standings at 3-0 following last night's 67-59 win at San Diego City College.

Megan Ehmke and Tasha Dowell lead the way with 16 points apiece. Ehmke also hauled in 10 rebounds.

The Griffins will look to stay in first place when they host Southwestern College (2-1, 6-12) Saturday night at 7pm. The game is part of a doubleheader with the Grossmont men who play at 5pm against Mira Costa College.

Griffins nab 64-63 victory over Mesa

(1/6) Grossmont moved to 2-0 in PCC play by holding on for a one point win over Mesa College. The difference came at the foul line where Grossmont's Alexis Bertelsen hit a huge free throw with the game tied 63-all with 50 seconds to play, giving the Griffs their winning margin.
Grossmont was clutch from the charity strip in the second half hitting 17 of 18 free-throws.
Grossmont forward Megan Ehmke scored a team-high 16 points with 12 rebounds. Kylie Pitts was 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, finishing with 15 points. Forward Gaby Passentino was a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line and finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Ehmke named PCC Athlete of the Week

(1/3) Grossmont basketball player Megan Ehmke was named the PCC's top female athlete this week.
Ehmke, a 6-1 freshman forward/center from West Hills High School, scored 24 points, hauled down 11 rebounds and blocked seven shots to the Griffins' 65-64 win over Golden West.
The Griffins went on to take third place in their 19th Annual Holiday Tournament.

Griffins storm their way to third place finish

(12/31) Grossmont bounced back after losing to Bakersfield in the semifinals to rout San Diego Mesa 73-48 taking third place in the 19th Annual Holiday Tournament.
Freshman guard Kylie Pitts lead the team with 18 points to go along with her six rebounds. Gaby Passentino, was named to the All-Tournament Team following her 16 point, seven rebound performance.
Forward Morgan Surratt turned in a strong performance with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Championship: Saddleback 82, Bakersfield 63

Saddleback upended state-ranked Bakersfield behind Cassie Klockgether's 20 points and 10 assists. With the win Saddleback went from unranked to #9 in the Southern California coach's poll. Bakersfield fell from 10 to 13.

(12/29) The Griffins got off to a great start in their own tournament with a last second victory over Golden West 65-64.

Down four with 6.5 seconds remaining Alexis Bertelsen hit a three-pointer to trim the deficit to one. La Tasha Dowell then stepped in front of the inbounds pass and hustled up a shot as the buzzer sounded giving the Griffins (5-9) a thrilling come from behind victory.

Griffs drop one to Pierce

(12/20) The Grossmont women could not hold on to a 37-33 halftime lead losing to visiting LA Pierce College 81-67. The Griffins were outscored 48-30 over the final 20 minutes en route to their ninth loss of the season.

Sophomore forward Gaby Passentino led the Griffins with 17 points, and freshman Meghan Ehmke added 14 and a team best 12 rebounds.

The Griffins are on the road Thursday (12/21) at College of the Desert, then host Golden West at 5pm in the opening round of the 19th Annual Holiday Tournament starting Thursday December 28th.

Griffin women open the season 2-0

(11/10) With a tight 68-64 win over visiting Barstow College, the Grossmont women have gotten off to a 2-0 start to the new season.

The Griffins were led by Alexandra Smelser's 15 points and 16 rebounds in the early season win. Tonya Grettenbergerhad 10 points and 11 rebounds, and guard La Tasha Dowell was the only other Griff in double-digits with 10 points. Kylie Pitts had a team high five assists for Grossmont.

Grossmont 77, LA City 39

(11/9) The Griffins got the season started on the right foot with a 77-39 drubbing of host LA City College. Freshman Kylie Pitts lead the Griffs with 13 points. Sophomore Teri Bailey added 12 points, and newcomers Megan Ehmke (11 pts) and Alexandra Smelser(10 pts) rounded out the scoring leaders.
